Fabian Schaar (CB) - 6/10 - kept United calm for 55 minutes before the pressure increased. Didn't do anything wrong.

Callum Wilson (ST) - 6/10 - A lively 45 minute saw Wilson linking well with Saint-Maximin, but his evening was cut short by an apparent calf injury.
Alain Saint-Maximin (LW) - 8/10 - How cool is this guy to look at? Was given a chance to bite and shoot inside but took nothing off the finish - it dropped out of orbit. Somehow the opening doors were missed in the second period but there was a danger the whole time. Got late.

David de Gea (GK) - 8/10 - No chance with a goal from Saint-Maximin, but very cautious throughout. Good handling in the form of low shots propelled him to a 20-minute spell before producing a world-class stop to deny Almiron.
Diogo Dalot (RB) - 6/10 - Newcastle had one hell of a fight at the hands of the Portuguese, using Saint-Maximin's skills at every opportunity. Fairly did well and then got help.
Rafael Varane (CB) - 4/10 - He could only have watched in horror if Longstaff had picked up his pocket and Newcastle opened the scoring. Saw the speed on his return.
Harry Maguire (CB) - 4/10 - Showed Saint-Maximin inside for the goal when he needed to do anything. Just feeling so, so unsteady.
Alex Telles (LB) - 5/10 - Tried to step down to the left and offer an outlet, but the quality was low - like the others in the red.

Fred (CM) - 5/10 - Recycled the ball enough, though it was often sideways or backwards - a symptom of United's lack of ambition in the first 45. leaned on the brakes.
Scott McTominay (CM) - 7/10 - Snappy in the tackle, McTominay was again the one who really had a little oomph about him.
Marcus Rashford (AM) - 4/10 - played a deep lead on the right (sort of) and looked devoid of confidence, minus a rasping long shot that stung Dubravka's palms.
Bruno Fernandes (AM) - 4/10 - Did a pretty good job throughout the game, tosses the ball over the top to find Cavani for Dalot. The rest of the game was spent thinking about decisions.

Cristiano Ronaldo (ST) - 3/10 - Possibly one of his worst opening 45 minutes in the last 15 years. Didn't stop moaning and thinking about it, didn't improve after the break.
Mason Greenwood (ST) - 4/10 - Very little threat in the first 45 minutes but was he worse than Ronaldo? Definitely not. Subbed at half-time.
Jadon Sancho (45') - 6/10 - A clever inside move opens up space for Dalot, although he is still looking for his Dortmund spark.
Edinson Cavani (45') - 7/10 - took wise positions in the penalty area, and after scratching his first real sight of Dubravka's target, didn't make the same mistake twice when left alone from 12 yards away. Given.
